Supporting Lifelines Scotland to Strengthen Responder Wellbeing

The Blue Light Card Foundation is proud to support Lifelines Scotland, a vital initiative from NHS Lothian’s Rivers Centre that puts responder mental health and resilience at the heart of Scotland’s emergency services.

Over the past four years, Lifelines has trained nearly 4,000 responders across Blue Light services and volunteer communities, while building a national network of over 200 peer facilitators. Through strengths-based training, online resources, and trauma-informed practice, Lifelines has helped normalise psychological injury, reduce stigma, and encourage seeking help early.

“NHS Lothian is delighted to have the Blue Light Card Foundation as a partner for the Lifelines Scotland project. Their support will help us maintain and extend the reach of our training to help Scotland’s emergency service community stay psychologically safe and well as they support their fellow citizens.”

Thanks to continued support from the Scottish Government and with additional support from the Blue Light Card Foundation, Lifelines will be able to sustain and grow this vital programme, ensuring responders, their families, and their organisations can continue to access the tools, training, and support they need to thrive.

This partnership reflects our shared commitment to building a more resilient emergency services community, where mental health is valued and protected, not overlooked.

“We’re proud to support Lifelines Scotland alongside the Scottish Government. This project matters because it reaches the people behind the uniforms, helping them feel seen, supported, and better equipped to cope with the pressures of the job. It’s about creating a culture where mental health is an integral part of everyday conversations.”
