Information for employees

Donate monthly in a hassle-free way by joining your workplace payroll giving scheme. It allows you to donate to one or multiple charities of your choice. Your regular contribution will be hugely appreciated by us and/or any other chosen by you charities, as it will provide us with reliable support when we need it the most.

Payroll Giving is easy to set up through your workplace. Your donation will be automatically deducted from your gross salary each month, which means it will happen before tax is applied. Blue Light Card Foundation or other chosen by you charities will get more and cost you less because of reclaimed tax: e.g. £10 overall donation will actually cost you £8 if you are a standard-rate taxpayer.

Your donation will go a long way:

The amount of tax relief you receive depends on the tax band you pay.

Payroll Giving automatically includes tax so there is no need to claim Gift Aid.

Gift Aid is a government scheme that allows charities to reclaim the basic rate tax you pay as a UK taxpayer. As that is already covered in the Payroll Giving scheme there is no need for additional paperwork.

If you’d like to learn more or you would like us to speak to your employer, please fill out the form below and our fundraising manager will get in touch. Please note that for you to participate in payroll giving, your employer will need to have a scheme in place. We are happy to assist but it is an employer’s discretion to offer the scheme as one of the benefits in their workplace.

Organising

Payroll Giving is an easy way to boost your company’s CSR credentials and increase employee engagement by offering them a hassle-free way to support charities they care about. The scheme can be added to the overall benefits portfolio introduced by your business.

Payroll Giving allows colleagues across the business to donate to a charity without paying tax, directly through their wages.

Setting the scheme up requires a few simple steps:

Approved Agencies for Payroll Giving can be found here:
www.gov.uk/government/publications/payroll-giving-approved-agencies
Check the way your chosen agency charge their fees. Usually, they deduct it from employee’s donations and you can choose to cover it in order to pass more money to your chosen charity. Please note you can deduct any cost of running the scheme from your business profits before tax!

Involve staff champions, the HR team, embed it throughout the induction process and internal communication channels etc.
Don’t hesitate to reach out to charities you work with – they will be more than happy to attend all staff sessions and/or team meetings to explain the benefits of the scheme for their cause; but most importantly from an employee perspective too.

The deduction is taken from an employee’s wage before tax, but after National Insurance.

They’ll contact the chosen charities directly and handle donations accordingly.
