Our Lifesavers are facing their own emergency.
Emergency responders. Search and Rescue. Frontline health care workers and volunteers. And those behind the scenes who help make it all possible.
When we need them, they’re there. Fast.
Now they need us. Urgently.
Imagine waking up every day knowing you’re likely to face violence, witness extreme suffering or receive death threats. Imagine expecting to be first on the scene of a fatal accident or major disaster. Now imagine putting on your uniform anyway..Welcome to the frontline.
Thankfully, most of us won’t ever have to confront such situations. Some of us might experience them just once in our lifetime. While firefighters, police officers, paramedics, nurses, service men and women and volunteers in our Blue Light community face some of the most disturbing incidents once a day, once a week, once a month – on average, 500 times in their lives.
Shift after shift – there’s no let-up. Add long, unpredictable work patterns and limited appropriate support, and we can see why those who put their own lives on the line for ours are at higher risk of suicide than most.
Facts and stats tell a stark story of stigma, isolation and suicide. And a lack of support.
Loved ones, friends and complete strangers working in our Blue Light community put their lives at risk for us all daily. Yet they’re silently struggling, alone. They’re at risk of a mental health crisis. And we’re at risk of letting down those who are there for us in our most vulnerable moments.
But we won’t let that happen.

Funding Life-changing projects
Through our grants programme we fund projects local to you and UK-wide with the Blue Light community at their heart. From inside spaces that offer respite and outdoor activities that make it easier to open up, to mental health first aid training so colleagues have somewhere to go in a crisis.
From therapeutic retreats and wellbeing programmes that bolster mental health to crisis lines designed to reduce suicide and face-to-face psychological support – and projects with a difference, such as wellbeing dogs in the workplace.
We’re participating in projects that help prevent poor mental health, provide support in a crisis, and help heal, to give everyone somewhere to turn, no matter what they’re experiencing.
