Royal visit highlights Mind Over Mountains’ nature-based support for emergency service wellbeing.
The Princess of Wales recently joined a Mind Over Mountains wellbeing walk in the Peak District, spending time walking, listening and talking with people who have taken part in the charity’s programmes.
The walk focused on the simple but powerful combination Mind Over Mountains is known for, movement in nature, supportive conversation, and compassionate, professional guidance in an unpressured setting.
Participants shared personal experiences of mental health challenges and recovery, and the Princess took part in mindfulness activity during the day, reflecting the charity’s approach of combining time outdoors with wellbeing coaching and counselling support.
For emergency responders, the visit also brought attention to the ongoing mental health pressures that can build over time in frontline roles, and to the value of accessible, preventative support that feels practical and human.
Mind Over Mountains’ model, delivered through supported walks and retreats, aims to reach people who might not otherwise engage with more traditional routes to support.
Samah Ahmed, a paramedic with West Midlands Ambulance Service, spoke about the realities of frontline trauma and how Mind Over Mountains’ support has helped.
After taking part in a walk, she has since registered for a retreat funded by the Foundation, illustrating how early, low-barrier support can be a stepping stone to deeper recovery-focused help.
